From Grass to Fuel: Growing Hawaiʻi’s Renewable Energy Future

Sustainable Energy Hawaiʻi invites you to a one-hour webinar with Wendy Owens, founder and CEO of Hexas Biomass, to explore a potential farm-to-fuels pathway for Hawaiʻi. Wendy will discuss Aliʻi Grass and XanoGrass™, two purpose-grown biomass solutions, and explain how plant-based feed stock can be used for renewable fuels and other bio-based products.
The session will focus on the local challenges the technology seeks to address, the proposed pathway from cultivation to fuel production, the status of the Hawaiʻi pilot, and the role farmers, landowners, and partners could play in moving from demonstration to commercial scale.

Wendy Owens is the founder and CEO of Hexas Biomass, an award-winning biomaterials company developing regenerative, plant-based raw materials. She began developing XanoGrass™ in 2018 and founded Hexas Biomass in 2020. Hexas’ platform produces XanoFiber™, a plant-based feed stock designed to supplement or replace wood, food crops used for energy, and fossil-fuel-based raw materials in applications that include renewable fuels, paper, packaging, composites, and bioplastics. Wendy was selected as a 2023 Cartier Women’s Initiative Fellow.
