Today, we are at a crossroads regarding energy. This means we are at a crossroads regarding our way of life. We are facing multiple global crises all at once: Climate change caused by our dependency on fossil fuels; a human population expanding at a rate of a billion people every 10 years, a global pandemic, COVID 19; and the rapid depletion of our planet’s natural resources.

We are running out of time to balance the imbalance that is now taking a toll on our global environmental, social, and economic systems. We have an obligation to create a livable planet for future generations and must act as quickly as possible to do that in a sustainable way.

This blue marble we call Earth is a very big place. At Sustainable Energy Hawai‘i we believe we can make effective changes toward a more self-reliant future starting right here on this one, isolated, self-contained place in the world: The Big Island of Hawai‘i.

Establishing a

Pacific Islands Regional H2 Hub Under the US DOE’s

Clean H2 Hubs Program

Sustainable Energy Hawai‘i generated a whitepaper to support establishing a regional H2 Hubs program. SEH contributed this to the State’s Hydrogen Hub application.

A

Green Hydrogen Economy

Sustainable Energy Hawai‘i's vision is to create a hydrogen economy on The Big Island. We have a rare set of resources that could enable a vibrant and sustainable economy. We’ve created this paper to help others understand the potential that geothermal offers Hawaii.

Global Oil Production

This short video offers insight into global oil production over several decades. Notable is the decline in recent years. What do you make of this? What does it mean for the global economy? What does it mean for Hawaii, the most oil-dependent state in the union?

Global Population Growth

Another very interesting and concerning trend is population growth. This is growth on a planet with finite resources and where competition for resources and the hyper-consumption are translating into environmental, social, and planetary stress.

Let’s work together to create a sustainable and resilient Hawaii

We are here to answer your questions and hear your ideas. Most of all we are here to join with you to organize a sustainable, self-sufficient future for all of us who live on this beautiful, shared community we call home… Hawai‘i Island.
