From Grass to Fuel: Growing Hawaiʻi’s Renewable Energy Future
Sustainable Energy Hawaiʻi hosted a one-hour webinar on September 1 with Wendy Owens, founder and CEO of Hexas Biomass.
Wendy shared a farm-to-fuels pathway for Hawaiʻi that leverages Aliʻi Grass and XanoGrass™, two purpose-grown biomass solutions. Aliʻi Grass is a high-protein plant that is grown for animal feed. XanoGrass™ is a feedstock for energy and wood products.

SEH point of view on studying Advanced Nuclear Power
On the last day of Hawaiʻi’s 2025 legislative session, SEH Board Member Peter Sternlicht was contacted by Eric Naktin, a reporter from KITV, Hawaii’s ABC affiliate, asking him to share his thoughts on the legislature forming a Task Force to study the current state of nuclear power generation technologies.
SEH testified in support of a resolution (SCR136) to create a working group to study the feasibility of advanced nuclear power technologies in Hawaii. Here is a link to the news report - Island News - Nuclear energy consideration under debate in Hawaii.
